Ice is nice, and would suffice
So is this salt, white dirt or ice?  The Phoenix probe has been scooping up soil to feed into its onboard instruments for analysis, and after one of the scoops they uncovered this white stuff.  I'm betting its water ice, but we'll know for sure when and if it sublimates into the atmosphere.
