Compulsive creature creation

So I've been playing with that Spore creature creator pretty much since I finished downloading it.  If it weren't for the pesky need to work in order to maintain my fabulous debt peon lifestyle, I'd probably be at it right now.   Its really kind of addictive.   In fact, I'm going to shell out the $9.95 to get the full version when I get home this evening.  The free trial is nice, but I want to be able to build something other than a carnivore.

Luckily, I'm management, so I can play it and maintain my lifestyle ;)

What's your Sporepedia name? Mine is WildElf, so you can find my guys by searching for me.

At first I was pretty convincing in my refusal to pay $10 for a toy that will be obsolete in less than three months. But after only two or three days with it, I'm ready to shell out the money too. I might be buying it tonight as well.

Hmm, it didn't find you. Have you uploaded anything yet?

If you search for "Alien" there are a bunch up there, varying quality. Once you download a creature, you just drag and drop the .png into your creature creator window. The pictures hold all the info it needs to rebuild it in your creator. It's brilliant.

There's also some tricks that aren't easy to get the hang of, but really increase the versatility. Like making limbs with more or less joins than the default, or removing hands and feet. Most of them are listed in the help file, but I had to look them up online to get some more detailed descriptions, and still had to mess around with it to figure it out (the joints thing was the trickiest).

That joint thing was in the youtube tutorial I think, or is there another trick I'm confusing that with?

Oh, and I didn't verify my account until just a little while ago. But it should be on there now. And I haven't uploaded anything yet but I will soon.

Hmm, maybe. I didn't waste time on any of the tutorials. Maybe I should take a look after all.

I played with it for five minutes and was bored.

I wonder what I'm missing.

It might just be that its not your cup of tea. Its a bit cartoon-ish, really. I'm impressed at how versatile and intuitive the thing is.

Now that I've got a better idea how to use it, I'm going to try and recreate aliens from sci-fi. Like Pierson's Puppeteers and well, Alien. Although I'm not sure how you'd do the Geiger texture on Alien.

I was thinking: a boring job.

But it could be a heart, too.

Boring job?! Let me tell you, you haven't lived until you've worked around toner cartridges. Every day is a new challenge :/

Your job is predicated on a lie. The rollers are always the problem.

It's not the freakin' rollers goddamnit!!! ;)

Maybe I'll redo that Hitler bunker scene with printer related subtitles about rollers and toner.
