I can do both...but point taken.

The LSATs are averaged so if you do not-so-great on the first, taking it over doesn't remove your first score -- it's averaged into your 2nd.

Make sure you do good the first time.

While that used to be true, my soon-to-be sister-in-law just took the lsat this month. Apparently the new rule is they don't average your scores. Your highest score is what counts. She also said if you take it twice and have a large spread between your scores, some schools make you write a statement explaining the difference.

Nonetheless, he's right about doing good the first time. That is an awful test to have to take twice. (and yes I should be studying for the bar exam instead of reading your blog ;-)

Thanks for the correction.

Glad to see their lowering the obstacles to becoming a practicing lawyer!

A signs of decadence, if ever I saw one. Lawyers are the American preisthood, equivalent to the guys who ran Egypt in the name of Amon-Ra. Same set-up, just with a representative democratic bone thrown to the masses. Lowering the standards to enter a profession that weilds that kind of power is a bad thing. If I don't measure up, I deserve to fail. I'm signing up for a prep course ASAP.

I want to do well the first time, if at all possible. I've been looking at sample questions. It looks like logic games will be a major factor. Any book recommendations? If you were me, what would you be doing to prep right now?

I didn't use a particular book but Jill did and I will ask her the name of it. I know she improved her score over 10 points just using that alone.

If you take a prep course, I really don't think you need more than one of those weekend courses. You are already naturally smart, you just need to learn how the test works and maybe some tricks for those logic problems.

Personally, all I did was a weekend course followed by a practice test every day for a week before the test, save and except the day right before the test. Basically the more tests you can get in the more your score goes up. At least that was true for myself and for Jill. I suggest taking one practice test to just get a feel for where you are and then go from there.

What I didn't know at the time is that a high score doesn't just get you into the school you want but it can also get you a scholarship.

PS I'm so EXCITED that you're doing this! (oh and sorry for the essay)
