In 1957 we apparently tried to kill E.T.

Some of the UFO files released by the Brits contained info about an order to shoot down an unidentified object over the English countryside.

"'I had a lock-on that had the proportions of a flying aircraft carrier,' he [the American fighter pilot]  added. 'The larger the airplane, the easier the lock-on. This blip almost locked itself.'  At the last moment, the object disappeared from the radar screen and the high-speed chase was called off.  He returned to base and was debriefed the next day by an unnamed man who 'looked like a well-dressed IBM salesman'. 'He threatened me with a national security breach if I breathed a word about it to anyone,' he said."

If the weird guy in suit hadn't said anything, it would have been shrugged off as a "dunno what that was". The fact that the guy in suit came and specifically said "nothing to see here", makes it a memorable event.

True, stories that include MIB types have more weight.

I want our government to follow the Brits and release their stuff, too. I mean, if there's nothing there, what have they got to hide, right? And if there is something there, I want new and incredible consumer products like hovercars and death rays.

I'm still getting over the hovermat at work. I love the damn thing so much it's positively cringeworthy. But, yes. They should declassify hand and over the technology pronto.
