Civic duty!

Well, alea jacta est as it were.  The ballot is in the box, and I was really encouraged to see a line at my polling place.  I've been voting there for years and I've never had to wait in line once, but this morning people were wrapped around the building waiting for their turn.

We'll see what happens, but I'm hoping the polls will have been right for once.  I considered voting the opposite of how I actually want things to go to try and fake out my electoral curse.  I've never voted for the winning candidate ever in a Presidential election.  But in the end I figured if I tried that fate would probably punish me ironically by having my one vote be the one that sent McCain over the top (of course here in California that's not going to be a problem).

So, if you haven't voted yet, get out and cast your ballot (unless you're either voting for McCain or Yes on Prop H8...then stay home).

I got my sticker this morning too! And... there was a line to the street in freaking Simi! Can you believe it - I've never seen a line there more than five people deep!

I heard rain this morning and was a little worried, although Obama's secure and I'm not sure how rain would effect Prop H8 since I think it's more of a young/old thing than Democrat/Republican. My hope is that all the old people got discouraged trying to hit their polling places early and decided to stay home and watch their soaps display the sanctity of marriage in all its glory.

I just really can't believe California would pass that. Unless and until the polls say differently, I've got faith it will be defeated.

I was just so surprised by how Prop 8 was worded. Literally "take away the right" - who could read that and vote yes?

That was a major victory...the original wording wasn't so blunt.

The polls of potential voters are a blowout in support, something like 60/40. The problem, to be brutally honest is Black and Latino voters. Latino's are heavily Catholic, and socially conservative. The black vote I'm a little confused by, you'd think they'd understand the importance of civil rights and what it feels like to be oppressed.

However, polls of LIKELY voters are much closer, the last I heard against was in the lead, but only by a narrow margin and within the margin of error. I'm really worried it's going to pass....
